Blackjack is the most popular casino game. Casinos on land have their own rules for various games. Depending on the popularity of the casino the regulations change. Some of the most famous of these are located around Las Vegas, some other in the Atlantic City and some outside of the US in European countries. However it is a different scenario when it comes to online sites, they cater to different client needs with different rules depending on some statistics. However most of the rules are more or less based on the above mentioned casinos. We will see in the present article how the rules differ.
European Rules:
- 1) Doubling is allowed only when the total counts up to be 9, 10 or 11.
- 2) Splitting is allowed after doubling.
- 3) Pairs that are identical can be split, however they cannot be re split.
- 4) A player is allowed one hit on an ace after it is split.
Las Vegas Rules:
- 1) On any two card combination the player is allowed to double down initially.
- 2) The player is allowed only one hit on every ace when identical pairs of cards are split or re split while they are drawn, the split aces are however an exception.
Atlantic City Rules:
- 1) Pairs that are identical can be split, however not re split.
- 2) Splitting is allowed after doubling.
- 3) On any two card combination the player is allowed to double down initially.
Common Rules between the 3:
- 1) It is a must that the dealer draws on all the totals of 16 or anything less than that and stands on totals where the total is 17 till 21.
- 2) Payoffs for insurance would be 2 to 1
- 3) On blackjack a player would receive 3 to 2 payoff.
- 4) A player is allowed to procure insurance on the ace of a dealer.
There are some casinos which allow the dealer to draw when there is a soft 17. Some online casinos provide this rule. There are various differences between blackjack rules from America and Europe. In America a player is allowed to make a move when the dealers card which is face up is an ace, has the value of 10. Then if the dealer owns a blackjack the game is ended and the player is not allowed to either split or even double split. The European rule is slightly different, where the dealer does not check for blackjack before the second card is dealt. This rule is famously known as No Hole card. Once the player has completed his hand, the second card from the dealer is shown, here splitting and doubling are allowed. At the end however, if the dealer does own a blackjack, the player is subjected to losing everything, even those that he has double or split. Due to this rule from the European rules, they are the less preferred of the rules.
